Where do I start? I’m pretty new to posting blogs. Since I do a better job communicating visually and verbally, this forces me out of my comfort zone. Also, I have time to do some writing since I am look for more contract work, I may as well share some of the things I’ve learned and continue to do so to better myself as an artist, illustrator, designer, creative, and pencil ninja or whatever you want to call it. Hopefully others can benefit from my journey.
Okay, here’s some info about myself.
A long time ago in our own galaxy, on our planet in the South Pacific in the country known as the Philippines, in the city of Manila I was born on an Irish holiday. I’ll keep the year on the down low and leave it at a “long time ago”. I am the youngest of eight children. Some people may think that my parents were trying to make a Filipino tribe; popping out babies the way they did.
My siblings said I started drawing at the age of one. Honestly, that it's hard for me to believe. Most parents think their child could be the next Leonardo Di Vinci based on chicken scratch they see. One of the childhood stories my siblings shared with me was when I was 2 years old. I witness a car accident and drew what I saw as soon as I got home. I drew stick figures representing the people and a box shape cars involved in the accident. One of the vehicles was a Mercedes. How did I differentiate it from the other cars? It is windshield wipers. Mercedes wipers moved toward and away from one another, instead of moving at the same direction from side-to-side like most automobiles. My older brother tried to say otherwise about the Mercedes wipers and I schooled him (The 2 year old was right). I guess this was a landmark moment in my life that showed a glimpse of some talent, which would eventually lead to a career 23 years later as an artist.
